As many of you will know, Chaos Rush created a resource for properly resized DS sprites, and before you ask this is not a blatant rip off of Chaos' thread.
This resource however deserves its own thread due to a few different rules.
The most obvious of which, is that since Gen VI is a 3D game it has no sprites, as such all the sprites that will be featured here, both front and back sprites will be made completely from scratch, using only the models and Sugimori artwork as references.
I've seen Chaos' thread riddled with requests which put it in constant danger of being shut down, so I would like to stop this before it can even begin. Without further ado here are the sprites! Author DerxwnaKapsyla Creation date May 31, Overview History Discussion. This project was finished, and all the Pokemon introduced including Mega sprites were posted. However, Essentials was lacking sprites for Gen 6 Pokemon, primarily because there were no official sprites, only the models. It's been a long while since the addition of the Gen 6 mechanics to the engine, and since then I haven't seen a Gen 6 sprite kit that was compatible with Essentials.
So, since my fangame was using Kalosian Pokemon, I decided to just do the process myself. It wasn't that hard, batch conversion made the process infinitely easier. I also figured that I may as well reupload these so that everyone would have access to them, and wouldn't need to constantly convert the sprites for their own projects. One thing I will say; the sprites need to be readjusted so they appear correctly in battle and in the Pokedex. Hello all artists and spriters, I am Layell and this is the second official smogon sprite project the first one was for April 1st so this one will actually be good.
All sprites made will be custom for the project or with the specific permission of the original creator if they were already made. Others sites and projects can use them but require sending notice to the manager user Layell before implementing them more on this down below. This system will involve levels of progress to track the ideal progress of the sprite.
Rules for sprites: 1. In the gen 5 style. Static sprites will not be replaced with animated ones if the animated sprite is of lesser value. We encourage sprites to be made of all the pokemon before we go on an animation spree of our favs, if you really want to animate something though feel free to reserve it. Spriters are expected to do the static sprites of the front and back, spriters who continue to make only fronts may not have future sprites accepted backsprites can be harder with lack of available references, lots of people can take official art and make it a sprite.
In addition to this if you're going to animate for us it would be ideal to also do the front and back. Pokemon can be reserved for a week, but if there is no sign of progress the reservation will be dropped.Hello, Guest!

Spoiler :. Before continuing with anything else I would look at these guidelines made by Chaos, as they will allow you to sprite better, and to understand more about both this and Chaos' resource. To achieve high quality sprites in a manner that fits in with this resource and Chaos' resource, you will have to think very carefully about proportions. For example you do not want a 58x59 Frogadier sprite, and a 64x50 Greninja for example.
For first stage Pokemon look at Chaos' findings about small Pokemon, and how they are usually within a 40x40 pixel both give or take a few pixels. As such I would say Pokemon like Espurr and Froakie should also match these guidelines. Palettes are also going to be something tricky to think about.
If you are incapable or uncomfortable with making a good DS style palette, feel free to use place holder colours and I'll fix them for you, though please make it clear in your submission. I create the palettes by looking at both the Sugimori artwork and the Dream World artwork, and then increasing the saturation of those colours by about 10 or 15 to make them DS friendly. This is for a variety of reasons, one being, I do not have permission to use these sprites, and I do not want to have to ask when I could make the sprite myself.
Secondly many of those sprites are not made with the Gameboy Advance in mind, which is more than fair enough, so I'd have to resize them anyway, which wouldn't make my job much easier. Also should anyone contribute sprites, I would also ask, similarly to Chaos that you post seperate front and back sprites, as I will likely alter them a lot, in terms of touch-ups and palettes. If your sprite is not accepted, DO NOT rage or start flaming the thread, ask for constructive criticism from both me and others in the thread, and I may accept it later.
It is nothing personal if your sprite isn't accepted, it is just that this resource in keeping with the DS-Style 64x64 spirit has high standards of quality. If your sprite is accepted it shall be added to a list lower down in the thread, please be patient until I can put it into a Wichu friendly sheet!
